I have the BRCA1 gene mutation and a very strong family history of breast cancer and have been hyper-aware of my risk since I was a child. At 25, I was seriously looking into prophylactic surgery options. After consulting with several surgeons, I chose Dr. Haddock for my DIEP flap reconstruction at 29, following a robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy. From very the beginning, Dr. Haddock impressed me with his extensive knowledge and passion for breast reconstruction. His high volume of procedures and remarkable efficiency were key factors in my decision. My DIEP flap procedure, which took just five hours, was notably quicker than what other surgeons had anticipated! He has a very direct communication style, which for me took some getting used to as it was a bit of a departure from the warmer, more nuanced approach I was accustomed to—he’s all business, very academic, and straight to the point (no fluff). But I appreciated how he always took the time to answer my many questions with patience and thoroughness. His calm, straightforward manner may come off as stoic at times, and I’ll admit that in the beginning, I struggled to express my concerns because of it. It was intimidating, to say the least, especially when you’re interacting with a surgeon who is so well-respected in the field and who is also significantly older than you are. Often younger patients have their concerns invalidated and dismissed but I was so grateful that was not the case here. If you ever feel like something’s unclear or you have lingering concerns, don’t hesitate to talk to him. While he can’t know what’s on your mind unless you share it, I understand that it can feel daunting. I was nervous too, but once I worked up the courage to speak with him, I was amazed at how approachable and understanding he was. He listened with immense grace, never interrupting or making me feel like my worries were unwelcome. His kindness and thoughtfulness during our conversation left me feeling truly heard, and I walked away feeling relieved, empowered, and genuinely happy. It made all the difference. What also stood out to me was his humility. When I brought up another female surgeon I had considered, he had nothing but glowing praise for her. I felt this was a rare and admirable trait among surgeons I’ve consulted with. He was also receptive to feedback about how hard it can be for patients to express their needs, acknowledging the power dynamics that can make those conversations challenging. The fact that he took this feedback to heart really shows how deeply he cares about his patients’ experiences. And let’s not forget his nurse, Molly—she’s an absolute gem! Molly was a ray of sunshine throughout the entire process. Her warmth and empathy made every step of this journey so much easier. Together, Dr. Haddock and Molly make a fantastic team, and their personalities really complement each other. As far as results go, my breast reconstruction exceeded all my expectations. It’s extraordinary what Dr. Haddock was able to achieve, especially given that he started with nothing after the mastectomy. The aesthetic outcome is pretty impressive. Sometimes I am still amazed at how natural it all looks. For my fellow millennial HP fans, the best way I can describe it is that he is the Albus Dumbledore of the surgical world in skill and temperament. He has magic in his hands and I hope people get to experience it for years to come. While this journey has been emotionally and physically intense, I am deeply grateful for the exceptional care from Dr. Haddock, Molly and his team. Although I still may not agree with everything, I appreciate his perspective and now understand why things happened the way they did. I am truly thankful for the positive outcome despite the struggles along the way. I highly recommend Dr. Haddock for anyone considering breast reconstruction. His surgical expertise is pretty extraordinary. I went into this journey with uncertainty, but I came away with incredible results and gratitude and respect for Dr. Haddock as both a surgeon and a person.

I met with Dr. Nicholas Haddock after a partial mastectomy, done by a different surgeon at a different hospital, yielded positive margins, requiring additional treatment. Knowing Dr. Haddock, through a personal connection, I reached out to him and not only had all of my questions answered, but he took his time walking me through the process of what would be done and what I could expect, and for the first time since my breast cancer diagnosis, I felt seen, heard, and understood. I’ve often said he brought a calmness to the chaos I was feeling, and he absolutely did. I am forever grateful for that. Dr. Haddock and the team he assembled were phenomenal. I had a bilateral mastectomy with DIEP Flap Reconstruction and have been healing remarkably well. You won’t find a more brilliant and talented surgeon who works any harder than Dr. Haddock does at refining his expertise, while maintaining a kind and humble spirit.
